PS9 is an interdisciplinary project space that promotes practices of visual, sound, text and performance art. Programing also includes meditation and energy work.
In the Company of Coyotes is a group exhibition that explores modes of survival within hostile environments. A showcase of practices that explore material, sound, movement, medicine and mark as transformative care. The paintings, photographs and performance-installation foreground the body as site for distress, but also as conduit of evolutionary networks that promote healing.

Calamity Hustle: Watercolors is a disco-cowgirl romp of men, horses, cactus and coyotes.
Holly Topping is a mixed media artist from Los Angeles. Her meditation on self-identity and social history is a kind of reclaiming of narrative, a rendering of themselves as cave women, disco-queen and cowgirl. These cos-play characters reconstruct tales of shifting perspectives between human and animal; shadow and light.
"I play with animal and female stereotypes to create absurdist visual mash-ups… because, as a feminist, I recognizes my shared genetics with beasts of burden.”
Inspired by the 1973 dystopic sci-fi film “Westworld,” Calamity Hustle is a coming-of-age tale about an 80s-party-girl stranded in the Mojave Desert, a fantasyland of her own imagining.
Topping’s masterful approach depicts space and time as seen through camera and film: slow shutter, repeat exposure, focus and blur. Her figures twist, turn, reach, fall, dance, crawl, ride, crouch, drag, throw and collapse. A simultaneous layering of frenzy and stillness manifest.
Holly Topping is a Professor of Painting at Orange Coast College, California. She has exhibited in numerous solo-shows at various institutions, including commercial galleries Angles and Helen Bolsky. Her work is in the public collections of the Bass Museum of Art and The Museum of Sex. Group shows include: Copper Mountain College, Saddleback College, Torrance Art Museum, The Soap Factory, Pasadena City College, Bass Museum of Art and Kansas City Art Institute.
Anne Hars is an interdisciplinary multi-media artist/activist working in New York. Her project-research practice explores subjects around nature, equity and justice. Educated in sculpture and architecture, Hars received their MFA from the Art Center of Design with an emphasis on painting, drawing and installation.
Tethers started as a research project at The University of California Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics. Hars studied the history and uses of psilocybin, a hallucinogenic alkaloid found in some mushrooms. She traveled to Guatemala to learn fungi farming from healers who use it as medicine. Hars practiced for personal use.
“I photograph mushrooms because they appear to have unique personalities, the photographs become portraits representing the divine spirits some believe inhabit them.”
Hars uses mix-media to explore another kind of soul-portrait, abstract expressionism. Producing pigments from the fruiting bodies of sacred mushroom varietals, she mixes a specialty ink for painting and drawing.
Anne Hars exhibits nationally and internationally. She began here practice of installation-demonstration with the Los Angeles Community Action Network as a street gardener on skid row. Her seven year-project UpHouseLA used the "soft-power" of art to bring media attention to people losing their homes to luxury developments in Los Angeles. She has exhibited and performed at several institutions including The Getty Center, Los Angeles County Museum of Art and Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions.
